Each year PFMA commissions new research into the UK’s pet population so that we can provide our members and the public with useful statistics. A sample of UK adults are interviewed by TNS/Solus Consulting, in face-to-face interviews.
However, in 2021 due to the Covid Pandemic, the survey moved online. The change in methodology means that the sample size is larger (5093) and current 2021 figures should not be compared to previous years.
In order to substantiate the growth, we have spoken to industry colleagues and it is widely recognised that there has been growth. Plus PFMA annual Market Data scheme also suggests there has been a population increase over the last year. However, due to the methodology change, it is not possible to benchmark the change.
We also commission research to support pet health campaigns on a regular basis. The latest research on pet health and obesity can be reviewed in our news releases.
