Taking place online on Wednesday 13th October 2021

PFMA and The Webinar Vet are excited to present this FREE CPD event day which will explore the growing problem of pet obesity and the ways in which vets and vet nurses can help to tackle it head-on.

An excellent panel of expert speakers has been confirmed including Professor Alex German and Georgia Woods-Lee from the University of Liverpool, Professor Thomas Webb from the Psychology Department of Sheffield University and John Chitty, Co-Director of a small animal / exotics practice in Andover.

Presentations will cover the range of pet species and will provide practical tools and guidance on how best to tackle pet obesity and how to communicate with pet owners on this delicate subject.

Nicole Paley, PFMA Deputy Chief Executive, advises: “We are delighted to be working with The Webinar Vet to address pet obesity. As it is National Pet Obesity Awareness Day, we want to put the spotlight on this complex issue and encourage vets and vet nurses to join us.”

The pet food industry: Playing a part in sustainability and reducing carbon emissions

The pet food industry is very mindful of the role it plays in the responsible use of resources, including minimising wherever possible the environmental impact of pet food production. Pets are part of the family and bring numerous benefits to society. Pets instil responsibility,
encourage social awareness, and contribute to wellbeing. As an industry, we have a responsibility to balance the needs of the population (pets and people) with protecting the environment for future generations.

The pet food industry: Preparing for Brexit since the referendum

With previous experience from a number of trade associations, including some time in Brussels, Michael Bellingham, chief executive
of the Pet Food Manufacturers’ Association, is perfectly placed to lead the industry through these challenging times. Here he discusses
the impact and implications of the UK’s exit from the EU.
